Ramen in San Mateo

Jason and I drove to San Mateo to visit our friend, Genki. Since we were in the San Mateo, I wanted to try some ramen (Japanese noodles) restaurants. I've been hearing San Mateo/South Bay has the best ramen and I've been dying to try Santa Ramen (highly recommended by a lot of people).

Santa Ramen was closed. Boo. Just my luck.

Genki brought us to another place, Himawari, in downtown San Mateo – a cool, shop-filled, downtown, by the way.

I ordered a basic, miso flavored ramen that came with a few slices of cha siu (pork), bamboo shoots, bean sprouts and green onions. It cost extra for seaweed, egg and other additions that I'm typically used to ramen coming with. The broth was rich and full of flavor. I tend to like things on the lighter side, so maybe ordering miso flavored wasn't the best, but I still enjoyed it. The noodles were fresh, soft and slightly chewy (in a good way), while the meat was tender and delicious.

Jason also ordered miso, but with extra cha siu.

Liked this place, but still want to check out Santa Ramen. :)
